Born to Rock by Gordon Korman
Gotta love Korman for some light and breezy YA reading. This one is full of laughs and angst. The protagonist, a Young Republican bound for Harvard on a scholarship, finds his life going to...punk rock hell when he loses his scholarship, is kicked out of the Young Republicans, and finds out his biological dad is a former punk rock god called King Maggott. Seeing King Maggott as a possible source of funds for Harvard, Leo approaches King and ends up becoming his roadie for the comeback tour.
Makes me think of Almost Famous but a bit lighter fare.
